You Can Make a Difference With Positive Affirmations for Success

It is possible to make changes in any aspect of life using positive affirmations for success. Many of us feel overwhelmed by a challenge. When we find ourselves believing we cannot possibly solve a problem we may become paralyzed. It happens over and over again because we tend to repeat behaviours consciously and subconsciously. We trap ourselves into a state of inaction. We convince ourselves that we cannot make a difference.

I recently met with a friend who once felt guilty because he noticed so many homeless people out on the street during a particularly harsh winter. He described driving along in the comfort of his heated automobile with a sack of groceries. He would be home soon to prepare supper and fall asleep in warm bed.

His thoughts were on the homeless people and he thought about the blankets he had stored in the loft. He pictured himself taking blankets to those who were cold. He thought some more and told himself that five blankets would not solve the problem. It would not make a difference.

The power of positive affirmations for success would eventually change his life and the lives of many others. He told me this story about positive affirmation in action. The vacationing man was a stranger to this country and the empty beach. He had been watching a boy of about eight or nine years old for nearly 20 minutes. The boy was picking up starfish on the sand and running after the receding ocean water. At the edge of the tide he would fling the starfish far out into the sea.

The man wandered along until he reached the boy and asked him what he was doing. The boy plucked a starfish from the sand, looked up, and replied that he was throwing them back into the ocean. He explained that the animals would die if they were not returned to the water.

The man looked down the endless stretch of sand and it was littered with literally hundreds of starfish as far as the eye could see. He could not understand how the young man could not know that his effort was impossible.

He looked back to the boy and asked him if he really thought he was making a difference. The boy launched another one high into the air toward the foamy water, turned to the man and smiled as he said, "It made a difference to that one".

My friend told me how that story inspired him to destroy his personal mental roadblocks. He renewed his commitment to practicing his personal affirmations. He cut his blankets in half so he had 10 instead of five. He asked co-workers and church family to donate warm clothing, hot chocolate, foodstuffs and volunteer time to the two warming centres in his community.

He is no longer frozen into inaction. He cannot take care of every homeless person on a cold winter night. He cannot solve the entire problem. What he has discovered is that he can overcome his past, not worry about tomorrow and take action today. He has discovered what all of us can learn about ourselves. We can make a difference.
