Romantic Candle Centerpiece Ideas

The right centerpieces will really make your wedding reception beautiful. It is not just flowers that make lovely decorations, either. Nothing creates a romantic ambience quite like these candle centerpiece ideas.

Candles have a lot to offer for wedding decorations. They are versatile, romantic, and inexpensive. They can be quite an easy element to work with for the bride who wants to make her own centerpieces, which is an added bonus. In fact, your own problem may be narrowing it down to one favorite candle centerpiece design.

WATER AND CHOCOLATE STARFISH

For classic weddings, try traditional candle centerpieces, such as ornate crystal candelabras. These are a wonderful addition to a ballroom wedding, and have a great feeling of timeless elegance, much like a set of pearl earrings. To make it even more opulent, try draping some strands of crystals around the candelabra. Bring in some color with scattered rose petals around the base of the candelabra, or even with individual flowers in tiny vases in front of each place setting (it makes a great favor!).

Candles are not only for ballroom receptions. If your wedding will be outdoors, a tall chunky candle in a hurricane lantern is ideal. It can be decorated according to the theme or location of your wedding. Having a beach wedding? Lay out striped blue and white tablecloths with a crisp nautical feeling. Sprinkle a pile of sand in the center and nestle the hurricane into it. Then finish it off with an assortment of shells, sand dollars, starfish and coral arranged around the base of the lantern. For a garden wedding, you could take the same starting point with the hurricane candle centerpiece, and instead of the nautical artifacts, surround it with a beautiful floral wreath. Or arrange a bed of greens and red berries around the hurricane lantern for a Christmas wedding. It is an amazingly versatile type of centerpiece.

Candles also make fantastic centerpieces for rustic weddings. Seek out unusual candelabras, such as distressed wrought iron stands with multiple levels. You can use candles that match or wedding colors or motif. Simple ivory candles would be pretty for a Tex-Mex reception over colorful linens. Or use candles in a deep yellow color for a Tuscan mood, especially when used in a room decorated in rich shades of red, brown, and yellow. Red candles on a rustic candelabra would feel just right in a barn wedding.

Some venues do not permit open flames without water (mine did not), which brings us to floating candles. They are both beautiful and safe to use. A simple but elegant centerpiece would combine floating candles with gardenias in a large porcelain bowl. Or select floating candles for your centerpieces that are created in a special shape. Flower shaped candles are especially romantic, and look feminine and pretty when the bride is wearing a romantic gown with delicate pearl earrings. Fruits and cute bugs like dragonflies are also great options for candle shapes.

There is a candle centerpiece to suit any style of receptions, from traditional to whimsical to modern. Candles will always add romance and beautiful light to your reception, which makes them a natural for weddings. Have fun designing the candle centerpieces that are perfect for your special day.

Decorate Your Wedding With Seashells

Getting married near the water is always so appealing. Whether your site is on a sun-kissed beach or on the rocky shores of Maine, it is wonderful to include natural elements from the ocean in your wedding design. There are so many great ways to incorporate seashells into your wedding décor.

If you stop and think about it, seashells come in all different shapes and sizes. There are the classic shell shaped ones, the big spiral conchs, and many other beautiful forms that you can use. In addition, there are other great elements that tie in with the seashell theme, like starfish and sand dollars. Most of these come in soft shades like pale pink or peach, white, and beige which are very easy to work into any wedding color palette.

WATER AND CHOCOLATE STARFISH

There are infinite ways to use your seashells, starting with the escort cards when the guests arrive at the reception. Instead of using the plain fold over type, use small flat cards, and attach each one to a starfish for a beachy way to welcome your guests. It might not be practical to mail out actual shells to your guests for your invitations, but you can still have a shell design on your stationary to tie in with the theme. It would be very cute to do your save-the-date cards in the shape of a conch shell, for example.

Seashells work beautifully as an accent in the centerpieces. Because of their natural look, they are best used with floral displays that are also natural, and not too stiff or formal in style. You can do all sorts of interesting things with the shells: wire them to stand up among the flowers, tie one shell or starfish with twine to the outside of informal vessels, or attach strings of tiny shells together, and use them like garland dripping from candleabras hung over the tables.

Another fun idea for your reception is to take shells and turn them into votive holders. You can use these glowing shells anywhere in the wedding venue: on the dining tables, on the guest book table, and even in the powder room. Little seashell candles also double as great wedding favors. If you prefer to give out edible favors, then look for beautiful chocolates molded into the shape of shells.

Every bride wants her wedding cake to tie in with her theme, so don't forget about the shells when designing your cake. They would look lovely used as a decorative element in combination with pale peach or pink flowers. Shells will also work very well with bright tropical flowers for a destination wedding cake.

A unique place to use the shell motif is in your bridesmaid jewelry gifts. You can choose gifts of bridesmaid jewelry created from silver or crystals in the shape of shells, sand dollars, or starfish for a lasting memory of your seaside wedding. A really neat idea is to give your bridesmaids monogrammed pendants that are created from shells. It is a beautiful look for a wedding near the ocean, and is a piece that they will find many other occasions to wear.

The natural form of the seashell is a beautiful addition to your wedding design. It is a wonderful way to celebrate the beauty of a wedding by the water. The shell motif is one that can be used in infinite ways to make your wedding décor even more special.

Coney Island Hot Dogs - Mouth Watering Nostalgia From Days Back When

Almost in a by-gone era are the dairy bars and Tastee ice huts from my childhood; the kind of eating preparation with those large silver dairy dessert machines that swirled ice cream into a cone. The menus of the food fare offered were ordinarily mounted high on the wall at the front of the building.

hot dog flavored gum

Visitors settled their orders at sliding glass windows, gazing up at the menu to make their selections before informing the order clerk what they would like.

HOT DOG FLAVORED

There are still some of these joints in existence, but many of them also have boarded up over time or the food fare has changed and adapted throughout the years as generations came and went.

Most of these Dairy pleasure joints offered items like Coney Island hot dogs, hamburgers, French fries, and a wide collection of ice cream style desserts such as dipped swirl cones, banana splits, and hot fudge sundaes with chopped nuts. One of my favorites was all the time the vanilla swirl cone dipped into that quick dry butterscotch, caramel, or hot fudge topping.

Other items on the menu of many of the frosty Pal style establishments ordinarily consisted of onion rings, corn dogs, and something called a "scrambled dog."

What is a Scrambled Dog?

There are distinct renditions of the scrambled dog. Basically it involves a warmed hot dog bun settled open faced on a plate. The hot dog goes on the bun and the combination is cut into bite sized pieces, bun and all. This is then sprinkled with oyster crackers. Add mustard, then coleslaw and chili con carne (meaning with beans.) Top with cheese, diced onions, and jalapeno pepper slices (optional).

Some people prefer the order of the additions to be different, but the notion is the same. It resembles a scrambled mess, to be honest, but it is very tasty and is eaten with a fork.

Coney Island Hot Dogs

The Coney Island hot dog formula I use is very delicious and includes the formula for the chili sauce that goes on top of the "dogs." Unlike the scrambled dog, the chili is meat only and contains no beans. It is a quick and easy formula and allows the cook to have evening meal on the table in 30 minutes or less.

The dogs are served on buns, along with ketchup and mustard, the easy homemade chili sauce, and topped with cheese and sliced green onions.

Other Dairy Hut Style Food Fare

Other hot dog versions at many of these snack bar style eating establishments included slaw dogs, kraut dogs, and relish dogs. There are the Cincinnati style hot dogs also but that is something distinct altogether.

In one of the Carolina towns I lived in during my teens, there was an old fashioned ice cream parlor that served hand dipped ice cream. The house hamburger was served in a traditional fashion except it also came with grilled onions and a heap of meaty chili. This was delicious with a soda shop style authentic milkshake and French fries.

Writing this record sure did make me hungry. How about you?

Had It With American Hot Dogs? Try Grilled Italian Sausage Instead!

Preparation:

Perfectly grilled Italian sausage starts with fresh Italian sausage purchased from your butcher or grocer or, if you're feeling ambitious, you could find some hot or sweet Italian sausage recipes and make some yourself!

HOT DOG FLAVORED

Juiciness and fat content can make cooking sausage a risky endeavor. Too many cooks hesitate to cook sausage after dangerous experiences with spatter, burns, and exploding. Some advocate par-boiling or pricking sausage before cooking to offset some of the risk but in my experience, releasing those juices often means sacrificing flavor. To hold flavor while reducing mess, steam (don't boil) your sausages for three minutes (you can steam with water, broth, beer or a combination; aromatics like onions, bay, or garlic are good too) or Just until they've begun to darken and firm up. In essence, they should sweat, not cook. After three minutes, take off and make three evenly spaced slits through the Casing Only; Do Not Cut through To The Sausage.

Cooking:

Place the lightly steamed sausages on a hot charcoal, gas, or indoor grill. Sausages should take about 7-8 minutes per side. When done, sausage will be firm to the touch and have an internal temperature of 160 degrees. Allow the sausage to rest before serving.

Serving:

Place your grilled Italian sausage inside your beloved bun or sandwich roll. Soft hoagie rolls or even hollowed-out French bread are good choices. Pick from a variety of toppings such as tangy stone-ground mustard, caramelized onions, crisp arugula, roasted garlic aioli, or zesty sun-dried tomato pesto.

The bun has always been an important part of what makes a hot dog so special. For the carb and the cholesterol concious, sugar-free whole wheat buns are substituted.

Collecting sea shells along the beach is a favorite kids summer activity. Take it one step further by transforming their seaside treasures into beautiful decorations or kids make-and-take party favors. This easy sea shell candle craft shows you how.

WATER AND CHOCOLATE STARFISH

The perfect souvenir for a seaside-themed party.

What you'll need:
Bar of paraffin Wicks Metal wick holders Double boiler with a pouring lip Shells Stubs of colored candles

Most of these items can be found at your local craft store. If you can't find metal wick holders, remove the wicks inexpensive tealights. Use stubs from colored candles to make candles in various shades.

Method:

Clean shells in a 10% bleach solution. Rinse with cool water and let dry.

Cut up the paraffin block into smaller chunks with a sharp knife. Melt them in the top of the double boiler by heating the water below to a slow simmer. Use the paraffin as is, or you may wish to add bits of colored wax for different color combinations. This is a great way to use up your old candle stubs. Experiment with color blends, but remember that the wax will be a shade darker when it dries.

Cover a steady surface with plastic or newspapers. Balance one of the shells on a small cup and slowly pour in the melted wax. Immediately place the wick and wick holder in the center of the shell. Leave wax to cool for at least 30 minutes so all the wax will harden fully.

Hot Dogs and Garlic Salt

It was a lazy weekend afternoon, and I was seven years old. I had just spent the entire morning playing hard outdoors, circling the cul-de-sac on my pink and white Barbie rollerskates and trying to teach myself to come to a stop without leaping off the sidewalk onto someone's lawn. Sweaty and invigorated, I burst into the cool quiet of the kitchen to see what my mother was doing. She had something simmering in a pot on the stove and was rummaging straight through her spice cabinet, humming a church hymn.

hot dog flavored gum

"What are you making?" I inquired while trying to simultaneously scratch a scab on my knee and swat a fly that had managed to result me indoors.

HOT DOG FLAVORED

"Dinner for my girl," she replied. My mother's voice was teasing, which all the time seemed to emphasize her Vietnamese accent. She glanced down at me with a fond smile.

"What is that?" I asked

She had pulled a small package of some seasoning from the depths of the spice cabinet and was shaking it generously onto a plate of raw chicken breasts. It looked like salt (which I loved) with tiny flecks of yellow in it.

"Garlic salt," she said, turning to me and retention her hand palm-side up. I copied her, and she shook the package lightly over my palm. I licked the tip of my finger and gently dipped it in the garlic salt, then transferred the tiny grains to my tongue.

It was magnificent.

The garlic salt dissolved faster in my mouth than quarterly table salt (possibly because its pungency made my salivary glands go haywire), leaving behind a savory afterglow that vaguely reminded me of ramen noodle soup. After running my tongue along every crevice of my palm until the saltiness had been licked clean away, I held my hand out for more.

"No, you need to eat something," she told me. "You can't just eat salt!"

Ha! How wrong she was! Yet sadly her words were true, because I couldn't do what she wouldn't allow. No one seemed to understand my total devotion to salt, my craving for it. If permitted, I could precisely have consumed an entire shaker of salt - gently savoring it fleck by slight fleck until my tongue was raw. I felt I could never have enough.

As if sensing my plight from his center by the grill in the backyard, my father came into the house bearing an aluminum foil-covered platter. The smoky-sweet scent of grilled meat wafted from below the foil. "Lunch is ready!" he hollered, even though hollering was unnecessary because we were less than twenty feet away.

I watched him set the platter on the kitchen table, wary. If it was steak, I would be in trouble. Steak was evil. When eating a bite of steak, the first two chews were acceptably flavorful, but after that it morphed into a bland, gum-like substance that made swallowing it impossible. It was like chewing on a wad of matted fur. Or so I imagined.

As luck would have it, my father came bearing hot dogs, not steak. I breathed an audible sigh of relief and allowed him to plate up a serving for me. Nestled within a soft bun, the hot dog seemed sad and lonely, but condiments were an issue for me. Ketchup tasted good but soaked the bun and left it undesirably mushy. Mustard was a joke - a flavor so terrible I was convinced that mustard fans must have been brainwashed at some point in their lives. Sauerkraut and relish were "acquired tastes" that I had yet to acquire, and the chili/cheese combo endorsed by my brother held no request for retrial for me. Too messy, too soggy, too much. I contemplated my unadorned hot dog for a moment before realizing that a new, very enticing condiment had just been introduced to my life.

Without request or waiting for my parents' approval, I took my plate from the table and went directly for the garlic salt that my mother had left on the counter by the stove. I remember the weight of it in my hands as I twirled the lid off and sprinkled it carefully onto my naked hot dog. Decorated with the garlic salt, it resembled a sunburnt appendage with some strange spotty disease. I didn't care. Back at the kitchen table, I ignored my parents' nauseated expressions, sat down with my creation and took a large bite.

Heaven.

Bahamas Yacht Charters

The Bahamas offer a wide range of yacht charter including bareboat yacht charter, skippered yacht charter, luxury crewed yacht charter, monohull and catamaran charter and both sail and motor yacht charter.

Yacht charter in the Bahamas offers turquoise waters and sparkling white sandy beaches. There are many attractive, interesting yacht anchorages.

WATER AND CHOCOLATE STARFISH

The climate of the Bahamas is subtropical to tropical. The Gulf Stream significantly moderates the climate particularly in the winter. Summer temperatures in the Bahamas average 30 degrees Celsius and are just 5 degrees Celsius cooler in the winter. Summer and autumn can bring very severe weather in the form of hurricanes.

History: The seafaring Taino people moved into the southern Bahamas around the seventh century from Cuba and Hispaniola. They came to be known as the Lucayans and there were an estimated forty thousand Lucayans on the Bahamas at the time of Christopher Columbus' arrival. His first landfall here was on San Salvador Island, also known as Watling's Island, in the southern part of Bahamas.

Later Bahamian Lucayans were taken to Hispaniola as slaves. In two short decades many Lucayan societies ceased to exist due to forced labour, warfare, disease, emigration and out marriage. After the Lucayan population was eliminated, the Bahamian islands were virtually unoccupied until the English settlers came from Bermuda in 1647 and settled on the island of Eleuthera.

In 1718 the Bahamas became a British crown colony. Some 8,000 loyalists and their slaves moved to the Bahamas in the late 1700s from New York, Florida and the Carolinas. Slavery was ended in the Bahamas in 1834 and this led to many slaves fleeing the USA and making a dangerous crossing of the Atlantic for the promise of a free life in the Bahamas. In 1964 the British made the Bahamas self-governing. And in 1973, the Bahamas became fully independent, but remained a member of the Commonwealth of Nations.

The culture of the Bahamas is a mix of African and European influences. This can be seen in the islands music and different styles include; junkanoo, rake and scrape, calypso and a unique form of hymnal. Marching bands are also an important part of life and are heard playing at funerals, weddings and other ceremonial events.

In the less developed outer islands of the Bahamas, known as the "Out Islands" or "Family Islands", regattas are important social events. They usually comprise one or more days of racing by old-fashioned workboats and combine an onshore festival. The Bahamas also have festivals associated with the local traditional crop or food, such as the "Pineapple Fest" in Gregory Town, Eleuthera or the "Crab Fest" on Andros.

Currency: US Dollars and US$ travellers cheques can be used. Major credit cards may be accepted in hotels, restaurants and some shops.

Abaco is a major centre for yacht charter in the Bahamas. Here a full service marina is home to many charter yachts. Fuel, water, ice, laundry and shower facilities are all available. You can also provision the yacht here. Fly to Abaco from Florida's Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Miami airports. Your charter yacht is just five minutes from airport.

There are several modern marinas in the Bahamas.

The main cruising area for yacht charters comprises Great Abaco and Little Abaco, along with a delightful string of sandy cays just to the east. Begin in the centre at quaint Man-O-War Cay.

The beach at Treasure Cay is one of National Geographic's Top 10!

Great snorkelling and a Marine Park are to be found at Fowl Cay.

Green Turtle Cay is known for its cultural appeal with its museum, sculpture gardens, and fine dining at the Green Turtle Club. Visible for miles is the historic lighthouse of Hope Town, a candy-striped sentinel on the southeastern reef.

South to the Pelican Cays National Park you' will enjoy extensive colourful coral and sea life. Giant starfish can be seen scattered along the sandy bottom for miles.

Using Hot Dogs in Recipes

People eat hot dogs for many reasons. I unmistakably love hot dogs. Other people make them because they are a child kindly food. Still others make them as they are inexpensive and you can create a meal with a half holder of hot dogs.

My kids have all the time loved hot dogs. We buy only the all beef hot dogs and over the years we have discovered many uses for hot dogs.

HOT DOG FLAVORED

For a straightforward meal, grill them on the barbeque, add your favorite toppings and serve with a salad. When I make hot dogs, I put ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise on the table, along with relish and chopped up onions. My own personal favorite is mustard and onions.

When the kids were young, we used to tempura hot dogs. We'd buy batter at the store, and then coat and fry both hot dogs and veggies. It was a great way to get the kids to eat vegetables. We'd offer both tempura sauce and also ketchup. I think kids like most anyone dipped in ketchup.

Buy refrigerated crescent rolls. Roll up one hot dog in each crescent and bake until rolls are done. You can also add mustard to the uncooked dough before rolling up.

Do you like corndogs? Make your own corn dogs by preparation a cornbread mix, and rolling the hot dog in the mixture. Add a bit of extra milk to make the batter a minute bit thinner for dipping. Add a popsicle stick and cook until bread is done. While I enjoy dipping corn dogs in mustard, you can also dip them in ketchup and barbeque sauce.

Another favorite of mine are chili cheese dogs. We make a batch of chili, smother the hot dog with the chili and then add cheese on top.

A lot of people enjoy a casserole of baked beans with cut up hot dogs. You can also try barbeque baked beans. Both offer a very distinct flavor.

If you like bacon, try wrapping a slice of bacon around the hot dog and then adding melted cheddar cheese.

There are so many ways to enjoy a hot dog, and almost all of these recipes are kid kindly also.

The harlequin shrimp is quite simply one of the most stunning marine shrimp ever to enter the marine aquarium trade. I rank it right up there with the peacock mantis shrimp in terms of beauty and uniqueness.

It looks more like a flower than it does a shrimp. Its entire body is white with spots that range from purple, orange to blue in color. It has two flat pincers that it constantly waves around, giving it the nickname, the dancing harlequin shrimp.

WATER AND CHOCOLATE STARFISH

There are two known species, Hymenocera Elagans and Hymenocera Picta. H.Elegans hails from most of the Indo Pacific while H.Picta is collected from the waters surrounding Hawaii. It isn't entirely clear what separates the two species of harlequin shrimp and there has been some debate on the topic.

Both species can reach a length of 2 inches in size. They are not an agile shrimp. They are also somewhat shy creatures that like to settle in a dark cave in the marine aquarium. Their diet is unique as they only prey on starfish in the wild. There have been reports of them going after sea urchins as well but i have not tested the theory myself.

When a starfish is sighted, they rush towards it and try to flip it over its back where they will drag it back to their cave for slow consumption. It is quite a sight to behold in a saltwater aquarium. After dragging the starfish back to their lair, feeding commences. The starfish is pinned down the entire time and precautions are taken not to allow to get upright again.

Feeding is a slow process where they slowly eat the starfish alive. It is in the harlequin best interest to ensure it remains alive as a dead starfish quickly rots. In the marine aquarium, this can quickly foul the water. Stick to chocolate chip starfish as i have found them to be much hardier than the linckia varieties.
